What is camel trekking in Dubai?

Camel trekking is a gentle desert ride on the back of a camel. Tours typically involve a 1-hour caravan-style ride, often led by a guide. You’ll move slowly across the dunes, experiencing traditional Bedouin travel. It’s a relaxing way to see the desert panorama and learn about camels and local culture.

Anyone physically able can usually ride a camel. There is no strict age limit, and riders of all ages and backgrounds participate. Children can ride as well (often on the same camel as a parent). However, pregnant women or people with severe back issues should avoid it. Operators often allow one person per camel (except small children riding with a guardian).

Rides typically range from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the package. Some tours offer a longer “trekking” experience that can last 1–2 hours. Always check your specific tour details. Even a 30-minute ride is enough to feel like a desert camel caravan.

Yes, camel riding is generally safe and a very gentle experience. Camels move slowly and guides ensure riders are well-placed. Always follow the guide’s instructions (e.g., to remain seated and balanced). Children should ride behind the adult, and life jackets are not needed (because it’s on land). Proper guided tours emphasize animal welfare and customer safety.

 Wear light, comfortable clothing. Closed-toe shoes or sandals with straps are best for getting on/off. Since you’re seated high on a moving animal, hold onto any provided handles. A sunhat and sunscreen are advisable. Dress modestly in line with UAE customs (especially if the ride is part of a mixed desert camp experience).

Camels can carry most adults, but operators often set a weight limit (typically around 100–120 kg) for safety. They may also restrict riding for very young children (usually under ~4 years) for safety. Since camels move gently, most healthy people can ride.
